Meet Shaun Anthony McMichael, a writer, educator, and literary community builder whose work spans fiction, poetry, and short stories. His forthcoming novel, Whistle Punk Falls (Alternative Book Press; August 2025), joins a growing body of work that explores identity, resilience, and the emotional terrain of modern life.

Shaun is also the author of the short story collection The Wild Familiar (CJ Press, 2024) and the poetry collection Jack of All… (New Meridian Arts, 2024). His writing blends lyrical precision with grounded realism, often focusing on people and places shaped by struggle, transformation, and quiet endurance.

Since 2007, Shaun has taught writing to students around the world in a wide range of settings, including classrooms, juvenile detention halls, mental health treatment centers, and homeless youth drop-in programs. His commitment to literacy and creative expression extends beyond the page, reflecting a deep belief in storytelling as a tool for connection and healing.

With more than 115 poems, short stories, reviews, and interviews published in outlets such as The Chicago Tribune, The Bellingham Review, and The Adroit Journal, Shaun continues to make meaningful contributions to the literary landscape. He lives in Seattle with his wife and son, teaches English to immigrants and refugees at a public high school, and hosts the annual literary arts reading series Shadow Work Writers.
