Every author has a reason for writing, and for Mark Michelson, that reason is simple: creating stories that encourage children, inspire confidence, and bring a smile to young readers. Born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Mark draws inspiration from his own life experiences and the lessons he learned growing up.
Through his books, Mark hopes to share positive messages about perseverance, kindness, emotional growth, and finding joy in everyday life. His goal is to create stories that children can connect with while reminding them that challenges can be overcome and that every child has value, purpose, and potential.
Visitors to Scottsdale Book Festival 2027 will have the opportunity to meet Mark and learn more about the personal journey that inspired his writing. His heartfelt approach to storytelling reflects a desire to encourage the next generation through characters, experiences, and lessons that young readers can carry with them long after the story ends.
About Mark Michelson
Mark Michelson was born on March 27, 2007, in Scottsdale, Arizona, the son of Brenda Michelson (née Durman), Montreal, Québec, and Mike Michelson, Kenosha, Wisconsin.
At the age of three, Mark lost his father to glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. Growing up with a single mother, he learned quickly how to cope and adapt. He was provided with stability and opportunity and, in return, delivered respect and hard work.
A great childhood one could only wish for.
After being introduced to a variety of sports, music, and the arts, Mark found his true passion in hockey. Being the reminder he was what he loved most.
"I always felt that I was the protector of my mother and our home, and no one was going to upset our world."
Growing up without siblings, Mark always had a special place for kids. He is passionate about teaching children valuable social and emotional life lessons through his fictional characters.
He wants to be the mentor many kids need. A world of joy, hope, and ownership.
Where kids can be kids. Love, laugh, and live a happy life.
"This book was written for all children who just need and want to smile."
A special thanks to CDA's Hockey Academy Director, Jeremy Mylymok. If it wasn't for you reaching out that day and asking for a moniker, this never would have happened. Masher's Books came to life that very day, and Mark hasn't stopped writing books since.
