Creator Spotlight: Frederick Littles & Wise Acre Comics

Building Heroes, Hope, and Representation Through Storytelling

Meet Frederick Littles, a former United States Air Force member, comic creator, and founder of Wise Acre Comics, a Black- and veteran-owned independent comic book publisher based in Goodyear, Arizona.

Wise Acre Comics was born from two defining moments in Frederick’s life — the cultural resurgence sparked by Black Panther in 2018 and the loss of his mother, which sent him on a path of rediscovery and healing. Through storytelling, Frederick found purpose again, creating characters like Akoma and Magnus, who draw from his heritage and personal experiences. Each story became a tribute to his mother’s strength, compassion, and belief in his creativity.

Today, Wise Acre Comics stands as both a publishing house and a movement — committed to uplifting underrepresented communities, promoting literacy, and expanding access to diverse stories. The company collaborates with artists from across the globe, including Africa, to create authentic, culturally inspired content while offering opportunities for local and international creators.

Their mission extends far beyond the pages of comics. Wise Acre Comics partners with schools, military families, and Black-owned bookstores to host free seminars, book clubs, and community events — ensuring that every child and adult, no matter their background, has the opportunity to experience the joy and empowerment of storytelling.

Frederick’s background as both an Airman and a creator fuels this vision. Guided by the values of service and community engagement instilled through his membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he continues to inspire others to dream, create, and believe in their own stories.

“Every story we tell is a tribute,” Frederick says, “to my mother, to my culture, and to the idea that everyone deserves to see themselves in the heroes they read about.”
