Meet BookBloom, an Arizona-based literacy support organization founded by special education teacher and reading specialist Kandace Garrigus. BookBloom’s mission is simple but powerful: to empower struggling readers — especially children with dyslexia — through personalized, nurturing, and evidence-based reading instruction that builds confidence and lifelong learning skills.

With more than 25 years of experience in special education, Kandace brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work. She holds a degree in Special Education, a Master’s in Teaching & Leadership, and is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach — a highly respected, research-backed method proven to support students with dyslexia and other learning differences.

Kandace’s journey is deeply personal. In addition to supporting countless students in the classroom, she has walked the reading intervention path alongside her own children. Through these experiences, she has seen the frustration, self-doubt, and emotional weight that struggling readers often carry — and the incredible transformation that happens when children are given the right tools, patience, and encouragement.

BookBloom was created to meet children exactly where they are, offering individualized tutoring that not only strengthens reading skills but also restores confidence and joy. The goal isn’t just improved literacy — it’s helping every child grow into the reader they are meant to be.

Meet BookBloom at the Scottsdale Book Festival and discover resources designed to help children bloom into confident, capable readers.
